Group seeks to adorn military gravesites with Christmas wreaths

Senior Veterans, Inc. hopes to adorn every gravesite with a Christmas wreath.

DENVER — A Colorado-based nonprofit is asking for donations to honor veterans during the holiday season.

Senior Veterans, Inc. is asking people to donate $17 wreaths to be placed on graves at the three VA national cemeteries across the state: Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs and Fort Lyon National Cemetery in Las Animas.

The cemeteries serve as the final resting place for over 160,000 Colorado veterans.

The nonprofit said more than 85% of graves at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Colorado's largest, were bare last year.

CEO David Bolser hopes more donations this year can change that, saying these wreaths are more than just leaves and stems.

"It's a symbol," Bolser said. "It's a symbol from the people of Colorado, and it's a symbol that they... there's a name on every one of those gravestones that they will not be forgotten."

The deadline to donate is Nov. 30. You can do that at coloradohonor.com.

The nonprofit will lay the wreaths across all three national cemeteries in the state on Dec. 16.
